Director (Part-Time)

Job Summary

The Director is the primary face and visible and vocal advocate for Heart of Jasper. The Director coordinates the organization’s strategy, oversees operations and volunteers and assures financial performance within budget parameters. The Director is responsible for advancing the goals and objectives of Heart of Jasper through the National Main Street “Four Point Approach” which focuses on 1.) Organization, 2.) Promotion, 3.) Economic Vitality; and 4.) Design.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Serves as staff to Heart of Jasper Board of Directors. Assists in the development of goals, core strategies and vision for Heart of Jasper.

  • Develops and maintains relationships with the City, Dubois County Community Foundation, Jasper Community Arts, Redevelopment Old Jasper Action Coalition (ROJAC), Dubois County Tourism, Greater Downtown Jasper Business Association and other partnership organizations.

  • Fulfills reporting requirements of the Indiana Main Street program and applicable grants programs.

  • Manages Heart of Jasper volunteers.


  • Serves as Heart of Jasper’s chief spokesperson.

  • Solicits and coordinates volunteer support.

  • Oversees the design, marketing, promotion, delivery and quality of programs and services for Heart of Jasper.

  • Cultivates and advances the role of Heart of Jasper among downtown businesses, not-for-profit organizations, community leaders, government officials and the community at-large.

Economic Vitality and Design

  • Maintains information systems to include a database of downtown property and business owners and pertinent market characteristics.

  • Actively recruits new businesses in partnership with Dubois Strong, the Jasper Chamber of Commerce and the City.

  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with business owners, property owners, brokers and investors.

  • Maintains up-to-date and in-depth knowledge of trends, techniques and best practices of downtown development in the areas of retail, housing, building maintenance and promotion.

  • Assists with various grant and business assistance programs.

  • Advocates for downtown businesses and their needs.


  • Experience in marketing, business-related field, public relations, urban planning, historic preservation or related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred or at least three (3) years’ experience in a related field.

  • Creative problem-solving skills, event planning and management, non-profit accounting and marketing are required skills for this position. An understanding of Main Street’s Four Point Approach and common business management principles are preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft operating systems, Microsoft Office, social media platforms and related software programs desired.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently in writing and verbally is critical.

  • In addition to communication, the Heart of Jasper’s first Director will need special skills in leadership and development of a not-for-profit.
